Forest River Lightweight Trailers
Forest River was founded in 1996 by Peter Liegl and is headquartered in Elkhart, Indiana. They grew considerably in the last few years to include production facilities throughout the mid-west and west coast. By 2010 Forest River had purchased Vanguard Industries (Palomino), Coachmen and Dynamax; and this does not include opening new divisions such as Prime Time, or the purchase of bus and cargo lines. In addition to manufacturing recreation vehicles, Forest River Incorporated also has a marine and boat division, a bus, a commercial truck and trailer, a manufactured housing division, including park homes, and a cargo trailer division. Their towable lines include; ultra-lite, light weight and standard size trailer trailers and fifth wheels.
It can be a little confusing trying to determine the difference between Forest River ultra-light and light weight trailers. Most of Forest River’s models would be classified as standard or light weight trailers. The R-Pod, Wolf Pup, and Vibe are considered to be ultra-light trailers with a GVWR of less than 3,500 lbs. Some of the Flagstaff and Rockwood models are in the light weight category. Don’t be misled by the “light weight” label; do your homework concerning your tow vehicle and the total weight you will be towing.
The purchase of Forest River in June of 2005 by Warren Buffett, head of Berkshire Hathaway, does not seem to have set Forest River back at all and they continue to manufacture their products at multiple manufacturing facilities throughout the mid-west and west coast.
